Introduction

Granite Bay Youth Lacrosse is pleased to offer a City League program for players in the 10U girls' age group, specifically tailored for those just starting out.

Lacrosse is played on a field with two goals, a stick, and a hard-rubber ball.  The object of the game is to score more goals than your opponent.  Lacrosse a fast-paced, high scoring game, and is the fastest growing sport - particularly in California.   There are many opportunities to play lacrosse at all levels including youth and high school, club and college.

Girls’ lacrosse has a contact level similar to soccer or basketball.  Body checking is never permitted in girls’ lacrosse and hitting players with the stick is not part of the game.

Granite Bay’s City League was designed to avoid most scheduling conflicts with other sports and activities.  City League is ideal for players with minimal to no lacrosse experience, and each season a substantial number of players are brand new to lacrosse.

Most City League players will be in 4th grade or younger. Please visit our age eligibility page for more information

Season Length, Practices, Games, and Locations

Our City League program runs from late February - mid May.

Practices are generally held twice weekly in Granite Bay.

Games start in March and are held on Friday evenings in Granite Bay, Folsom, Fair Oaks, Sacramento or El Dorado Hills.  This is by design to avoid most conflicts with other sports and activities.  There are opportunities for optional festivals, and jamborees which may occur on weekends and offer players additional playing time if they desire.

Prior to forming teams, we will contact registered players for friend requests and work to get players on teams with friends.  Generally, these are accommodated without difficulty, although in some circumstances in may not be possible for a large group to stay together. However, we will work to make sure that all girls can play with at least some their friends.

Equipment

Girls’ lacrosse players use the following equipment. This equipment is not provided by the club. Players are required to have it at their first practice. Players who participated in the New Player Clinic, may already have received a stick.

(1) a girls' lacrosse stick (which is different from a boy's stick)

(2) protective eye goggles

(3) a mouthguard.

(4) cleats (soccer cleats are perfect).

One goalie per team will wear team-supplied helmet and padding - and players usually have fun rotating and taking a turn in goal.

Lacrosse is a unique sport with a rich Native-American cultural heritage.   The emphasis of our City League program is on fun, skill development, teamwork, and social opportunities to bond with fellow lacrosse players.
